Activist Hanifa Adan has revealed that she narrowly escaped an attempted abduction on the night of Saturday, July 26.

In a statement on Sunday, July 27, Hanifa claimed she had alighted from a bus when a guy who was sitting next to him persistently insisted on taking her home.

Hanifa informed the man that she had already ordered an online taxi, but the guy continued to pressure her.

“I alighted from a bus, and this guy I’d been seated next to kept insisting on taking me home. He said his brother was nearby with a car, and I should go with them.

“I told him I’d already ordered an Uber, but he wouldn’t let it go, kept pushing for a good few minutes as I kept saying no,” she recounted.

The man went and moments later came back with his brother and pressured Hanifa to get into their car.

Fearing for her security, Hanifa threatened to scream if the two guys didn’t leave her alone. The two men grew angry but walked away.

“That’s when I started getting really scared. I asked them straight up why I would go with two grown men I don’t know, at night?

“The first guy kept saying, ‘I’m your brother, I don’t trust Uber drivers.’ And I told them if they didn’t leave, I would scream. They got pissed and finally left,” Hanifa narrated.

The incident comes days after Kenyan activist Mwabili Mwagodi went missing in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Mwabili was found on Sunday, dumped in a bush in Kinondo, Kwale County. The activist walked for 3 kilometers to Diani, where he contacted his family and revealed his whereabouts.
