Police have announced the temporary closure of three major roads in Nairobi on Sunday, August 3, due to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.

In a public traffic advisory on Thursday, July 31, authorities outlined the road closures and alternative routes to ease congestion.

Aerodrome Road will be closed from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout while Lang’ata Road will have one side closed from Madaraka Roundabout to Lusaka Roundabout. 

Additionally, Mombasa Road will have one side closed from Lusaka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout.

To minimize disruption, police have provided several diversion routes for motorists. 

Motorists from Mombasa Road heading to the CBD are advised to use Likoni-Enterprise Road at General Motors or the Southern Bypass at Ole Sereni.

On the other hand, motorists from Lang’ata Road to the CBD should use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road at Mbagathi Roundabout. 

Motorists from the Nairobi CBD heading to Thika Road, Ruiru, Juja, or Thika should divert via Limuru Road or Kiambu Road. 

In addition, matatus ferrying passengers to Kasarani Stadium should use Ruaraka Baba-Dogo Road and Ngomongo Road to reach Ngomongo Roundabout. 

Finally, motorists from Thika Road may use the Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road as alternative routes.

The CHAN tournament kicks off on Sunday with Harambee Stars facing DR Congo's Les Léopards at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

After facing DR Congo, Harambee Stars will on Thursday, August 7, battle it out with Angola at 7:00 PM at Kasarani. 

Kenya returns to the same venue on Sunday, August 10, to take on Morocco at 3:00 PM. 

The group stage wraps up on Sunday, August 17, with Kenya playing Zambia at 3:00 PM at Kasarani.

All matches involving Kenya will be hosted in Nairobi, alternating between the Moi International Sports Centre and Nyayo National Stadium.
