The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a two-month closure of the busy Rironi/Kamandura Interchange in Limuru.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a two-month closure of the busy Rironi/Kamandura Interchange in Limuru.

In a public statement issued on Tuesday, August 19, KeNHA said the closure will run from Friday, August 22, to Friday, October 31, to pave the way for reconstruction works at the interchange.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public of a temporary traffic disruption following closure of Rironi/Kamandura Interchange at the Junction A8 (Waiyaki Way), Limuru Road and A8 South (Mai Mahiu Road).

"This is due to scheduled road works for re-construction of the Rironi/Kamandura Interchange including slip road, loops and approach roads, from Friday, 22nd August 2025 to Friday, 31st October 2025.," the notice read.

According to KeNHA, traffic from A8 (Waiyaki Way) to Mai Mahiu (A8 South) will join the Old Naivasha Road just after Rubis Tilisi and proceed straight to Mai Mahiu.

For motorists from Mai Mahiu or A8 South heading to Nairobi, the diversion will be at Mutarakwa Junction onto Limuru Road, before rejoining A8 (Waiyaki Way) at Kwa Mbira Flyover.

Traffic from Ruaka, Ndenderu, and Kabuku will be redirected through Limuru Town before joining the highway (A8) at Kwa Mbira Flyover.

However, through traffic along the highway to and from Kamandura–Kimende–Naivasha Road (A8) will remain unchanged.

KeNHA urged road users to adhere to the new traffic management plan and cooperate with enforcement officers to minimize disruption.

"KeNHA advises motorists to follow the traffic management plan, project road signs and co-operate with police and traffic marshals on site," the notice further read.

This comes a month after KeNHA advised motorists using the Thika–Garissa (A3) Road to brace for traffic disruption over the next three months as the agency embarks on maintainance works on the bridge.

In a notice dated July 19, KeNHA announced the planned closure of the Kavenge (Mbakini) Bridge near Mbakini Centre to allow for the replacement of bridge girders and deck.

The maintenance works are scheduled to begin on Saturday, July 26, 2025, and are expected to be completed by Saturday, November 8, 2025.

KeNHA also directed motorists plying the route to observe provided traffic instructions to prevent further disruptions.

“The Authority advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan,” the statement reads in part.

KeNHA urged road users to remain alert and cooperate with traffic marshals who will be deployed to guide movement and ensure safety during the maintenance period.

The bridge is located along a key section of the A3 road, which links Thika to Garissa, serving as a vital connection for transport and commerce in the region.
