Kenya Power has announced that parts of Kisumu County will experience a planned power outage on Saturday, August 23.

In a notice on Friday, August 22, the company said the outage will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., affecting several areas within the county.

The affected areas include Rosa Garden, Koru Bible, Kandege, Kipsamwe, Center, Ushirika Market, and adjacent customers.

This comes a week after Kenya Power outlined how differences in tariff categories can affect the number of electricity units purchased for the same amount of money.

The company noted that customers are placed into specific tariff bands based on their monthly electricity consumption, with each band attracting a different cost per unit.

The Domestic 1 tariff, also referred to as the lifeline category, applies to households consuming fewer than 30 units of electricity per billing period.

Under this band, the rate is set at Ksh12.23 per unit, exclusive of taxes and levies. This category is designed to keep electricity affordable for homes with minimal power usage.

The Domestic 2 tariff covers households that use between 30 and 100 units of electricity per month. Consumption in this range is charged at Ksh16.45 per unit, before taxes and levies.

The Domestic 3 tariff applies to households consuming between 101 and 15,000 units monthly. In this category, each unit is charged at Ksh19.02, excluding taxes and levies.
