The National Police Service (NPS) has announced that arrangements are underway to repatriate the body of a Kenyan police officer who died in a road accident in Haiti on Sunday, August 31.
In a statement on Monday September 1, NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said the family of the police officer has been notified of the tragic incident .
Muchiri noted that the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in collaboration with the Haitian National Police (HNP), is working to repatriate the body of the fallen officer to Kenya.
Muchiri also said the two agencies are collaborating to ensure MSS officers who sustained injuries during the accident receive the best possible medical attention.
“The MSS, in collaboration with the Haitian National Police (HNP), is making arrangements to repatriate the officer’s body to Kenya and is ensuring the injured personnel continue to receive the best possible medical care,” Muchiri stated.

The accident occurred during a recovery operation on Sunday at 5:00 PM in Haiti’s Kenscoff-Pétion-Ville Road in the Pèlerin 9 area.
The accident involved two MaxxPro vehicles and during the process, one vehicle was towing the other when it developed mechanical problems, leading to the accident.
Two Haitian civilians died during the accident while 8 other MSS police officers were injured.
Three of the injured officers are in critical condition and require medical evacuation to the Dominican Republic for specialized treatment.
“The National Police Service (NPS) extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of the fallen officer and assures them of our unwavering support during this time of profound sorrow, Muchiri added.
The US Embassy in Haiti has expressed its condolences following the death of the Kenyan officer in the Caribbean nation.
The US Embassy also wished a speedy recovery to the injured MSS police officers.
“The United States is deeply saddened by the MSS vehicle accident this evening in Kenscoff. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who passed and wish a speedy recovery for those injured,” the Embassy stated.
The Kenya-led MSS mission in Haiti involves personnel from 6 countries including; Jamaica, Bahamas, Guyana, Barbados, and Guatemala.
