The government has announced plans for a proposed project that will revolutionize skills development in Kenya's building and construction industry, with an estimated cost of Ksh904 million and targeting 3,200 beneficiaries.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection on Tuesday, September 9, the Principal Secretary for Labour and Skills Development, Mr. Shadrack Mwangolo Mwadime, met with Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Kenya Country Director Mr. Wankyu Park at the NSSF building to discuss the groundbreaking initiative.
The meeting, held at the National Social Security Fund headquarters, focused on the proposed Project for Enhancing Building and Industrial Workforce Development through Capacity Building of the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).
According to official sources, the two leaders engaged in comprehensive discussions regarding the necessary measures for the project's successful implementation. The project aims to establish a Skills and Business Start-up and Incubation Centre specifically designed to empower workers, youth, and women in the building and construction industry.
The project is scheduled to commence this year and reach completion in 2027, with a total investment of US$7 million.
