Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has mourned the death of Veronica Waweru, the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Education and Public Service.

In a statement on Wednesday, October 1, Governor Waiguru eulogized Waweru as a visionary and intellectual leader who was deeply committed to serving the people of Kirinyaga County.

The Kirinyaga Governor noted that Waweru’s service and dedication has left a lasting mark on the county.

“With deep sorrow, we mourn the passing of Hon. Veronica Waweru, our County Executive Committee Member for Education and Public Service. She also previously served in Environment, Energy, Climate Change, Natural Resources, Water & Irrigation, where her dedication and vision left a lasting impact.

“Veronica’s leadership was marked by grace, intellect, and an unwavering commitment to the people of Kirinyaga,” said Waiguru.

The Kirinyaga county boss also extended her condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Waweru.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues. Her legacy of integrity and service will remain an inspiration to us all. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” Governor Waiguru added.

Waiguru appointed Waweru as a CEC in October 2022, in charge of Environment, Water, and Natural Resources.

The Kirinyaga Governor later moved Waweru to the Education and Public Service docket, where she served until her demise.

Previously, Waweru served as the principal of Muthale Girls High School in Kitui, Ngaru Girls High School in Kirinyaga, and Our Lady of Consolata Mugoiri Girls High School in Murang’a County, before retiring from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

This comes weeks after former Kirinyaga Deputy Governor, Julius Muthike Njiri, passed away. Njiri served in Kirinyaga County’s first administration between 2013 and 2017 alongside Governor Joseph Ndathi.

In a statement, Waiguru eulogized the former Kirinyaga Deputy Governor as a leader who embodied service, knowledge, and enterprise.

“Kirinyaga has lost one of its founding county leaders, Hon. Julius Muthike Njiri, who served as our first Deputy Governor. He stood for service, knowledge, and enterprise. My condolences to his family, colleagues, and the people whose lives he touched,” Waiguru stated.
