  • Reacting to concerns on Raila's health, Wanga noted that recovery does not necessarily mean being locked in isolation.

Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga has responded to a section of netizens who questioned ODM Leader Raila Odinga’s health, after he made his first public appearance on Thursday, April 2021, three weeks after contracting Covid-19.

Odinga accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta for a tour of development projects in the city.

During the tour, Odinga opened up on his battle with Covid-19, noting that he was in critical condition.

“Leo nimepata fursa ya kutoka nje kwa mara ya kwanza natoa shukrani kwa ndugu yangu kuja kunialika nyumbani nitoke njee ili Wakenya waone sura yangu…Mungu ni mwema. Kwa wiki tatu nimekuwa katika hali mahututi lakini sasa nimetoka,” he said.

Watching him keenly, you could tell that he is yet to fully recover and gain his usual strength. His voice also appeared to be weak.

This elicited a lot of reactions online with many noting that the Former Premier should take more time off to rest and avoid public events.

Reacting to the concerns during an interview on Thursday night, Wanga noted that recovery does not necessarily mean being locked in isolation, adding that at some point, one needs to go out and interact with others as it may speed up the recovery process.

Wanga further noted that it was important for Raila to come out since many were questioning how the ODM leader was airing since being taken ill.

“Part of the recovery process is not just staying in, once in a while you come out like he did today… I’m glad he is strong, he is still recovering… I think those who are concerned it is all part of the goodwill and concern that Baba must be well. I’m sure he is strictly on his doctor’s advice,” she said

“Staying in isolation can itself put you down… We pray for his full recovery… For the concern of Kenyans we also thank them, even if they say is Baba coming out to soon? It is all out concern, it is all out saying Baba should be well up and running,” she added.
