Residents of Njiru in Kasarani, Nairobi County, have named a 3-kilometer road after the late Raila Odinga.
Speaking on Sunday, October 26, one of the residents said they named the road after the former Prime Minister to honour his legacy.
The 3-kilometre road connects Njiru, Kamatuto and Mwiki estates.
“Today, together with the residents of Njiru, we have decided that we will remember Raila by naming this road after him. I want Governor Johnson Sakaja and President William Ruto to know that there is now a road here in Njiru called Raila Odinga Road,” he stated.

The Njiru residents also urged the government to upgrade the 3-kilometer road and install street lights.

“We are asking our MP, the Governor, and the President to pave this road and install street lighting. We hope that one day they will come to officially launch it and the residents can celebrate the name of our leader,” a Njiru resident stated.
The Njiru residents are also planning to erect a statue of Raila on the road to remember him.
This is the second road to be named after the former Prime Minister. In November 2021, Nairobi County renamed Mbagathi Way to Raila Odinga Way in honour of the late ODM leader.
The road connecting Ngong Road and Langa’ta Road was renamed after the Nairobi County assembly passed a motion endorsing the name change.
Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok, who sponsored the motion to name the road after Raila Odinga, said the former Prime Minister deserved recognition for his immense contribution to the country’s growth through his advocacy for good governance, democracy, and infrastructural development.
Raila passed away on October 15 after suffering a cardiac arrest during a morning walk at an Ayurvedic treatment facility in India.
The ODM leader was laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, at his ancestral home in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Bondo, Siaya County.
He was buried with his trademark hat and fly whisk, iconic items that defined his image throughout his political journey.
