The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has announced the death of its Secretary General, Davji Atellah’s father.

In a statement on Sunday, October 26, the union described the late Mzee as a resilient man who had been battling illness but remained positive and in good spirits.

"We regret to announce the passing of Dr. Davji's father earlier today. Mzee has been fighting a chronic illness for some time now but was recently in very high spirits and in a good state of mind," the statement read.

KMPDU further extended its sympathies to Atellah and his family, urging members and the public to keep them in their thoughts and prayers.

"May we pray for grace and calmness to the Secretary General and indeed his extended family during these difficult times. The loss of a father represents major dynamic shifts within a family unit," the statement added.

The news comes two weeks after the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, lost his father, Mzee Weston Kirocho Kanja, who passed away on Tuesday, October 14.

In an update on Monday, October 20, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said its Director, Mohamed Amin, led senior officials in visiting the Inspector General to convey their sympathies.

"This evening, the Director of Criminal Investigations, Mr. Mohamed Amin, visited the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Mr. Douglas Kanja, MGH, CBS, OGW, to offer his condolences following the passing of his father, Mzee Weston Kirocho Kanja, on October 14, 2025,” the DCI stated.

The DCI further expressed solidarity with the Inspector General and his family during their time of mourning.

"The Director, together with the entire DCI fraternity, extends heartfelt condolences and stands in solidarity with the Inspector General and his family during this difficult time. We are united in mourning their loss and offer our deepest sympathies as they navigate this challenging period," the statement added.

Prior to that, Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch also lost his father, Mzee Charles Antony Oluoch, who passed away after a long battle with cancer.

In a statement on Wednesday, September 24, the late ODM leader Raila Odinga expressed his condolences to the legislator and his family.

"It is with great sorrow that I have learned of the passing of your beloved father, Mzee Charles Antony Oluoch, following a courageous 15-year battle with cancer.

"I know this is an incredibly painful loss to your family, and I pray that you find the strength and comfort to endure this heartbreaking time," he said.

Raila went on to describe Mzee Oluoch as a pillar of the community who had made significant contributions to society.

"I knew Mzee well, having worked with him at the Kenya Bureau of Standards in the 1970s and Kanyakwar has indeed lost a towering pillar of the community - as has the greater Kisumu County," he added.
