Kirinyaga County Woman Rep Purity Ngirici has cautioned Deputy President William Ruto against forming an alliance with ODM Leader Raila Odinga ahead of 2022.

Speaking to a local daily, Ngirici noted that a coalition with Odinga could cost the DP the support he enjoys in the Mt Kenya region.

According to Ngirici, if the DP works with Raila, the Mt Kenya leaders allied to him at the moment will walk away from his camp.

“If Ruto goes ahead and forms a coalition with Raila, I can tell you without fear that all MPs who support Ruto from the vote-rich basket will abandon him, I being in the frontline,” she said.

Explaining why she is against the alliance, Ngirici noted that: “It could be a union full of mistrust and hide-and-seek games.”

Her point of view was echoed by Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua who noted that Odinga can only join the Hustler movement as a voter and not a coalition partner.

According to Gachagua, Raila has “a history of messing” therefore they won’t team up with him as they have a clear ideology of what they want to achieve should DP Ruto form the next government.

“We are not going to enter into any coalition deal with Odinga, that you can take to the bank. If he has subscribed to our hustlers’ transformation agenda, he can do so by way of voting for Ruto as the fifth president in 2022, but we can’t form an alliance with him.

“He has a history of messing. Hustler's narrative seeks to build the economy based on a bottom-up approach, but this can never be made possible when Odinga is part of the government seeking to implement the programme,” said Gachagua.

The claims of a possible coalition between Raila and Ruto emerged recently after the DP said he has no problems with the former Prime Minister.

The two worked together in 2007 but had a fall out ahead of the 2013 election.
