The Ministry of Tourism has announced a week-long programme for this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations.

Speaking on Wednesday, December 3, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said the country has continued to adopt themed approaches for public holidays.

"Since 2022, the government has adopted themed celebrations for the major public holidays. This year’s Jamhuri Day, the theme is tourism, wildlife, meetings, incentives and exhibitions.

"This is a testament to the fact that tourism is a major pillar in supporting the economy of this country through job creation, economic empowerment and foreign earnings," she said.

Miano confirmed that the celebrations will begin on Monday, December 8, and run for a full week.

She said the programme will feature various exhibitions and entertainment events aimed at showcasing Kenya’s tourism products.

"We are starting our celebrations on 8th December. We have a whole week. We will be able to showcase products that our citizens will be able to appreciate what is found in the country. We will be having a park that is demonstrated in one of the streets in Nairobi.

"We will have a food festival, fashion, mentoring sessions, entertainment, music. It will be an opportunity for those who will attend to enjoy the tourism products. We shall be announcing a full timetable," she added.

Miano added that the tourism sector remains on a strong growth path, supported by rising international arrivals and increased earnings.

"The tourism sector is strong and on an upward trajectory and we have seen this in the numbers that were recorded in 2024, welcoming about 2.4 million international tourists and the earnings were equally impressive, over 452 billion from the sector.

"As we celebrate our independence, we are then anchoring it and combining it with the celebration that is brought by tourism. We could not have gotten a better time to showcase tourism than the Jamhuri week," she further said.

This comes months after the Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects in the Office of the President, Dennis Itumbi, announced that the 2025 Jamhuri Day Celebrations will be held at the Talanta Sports Stadium along Ngong Road.

In a statement on Friday, September 12, Itumbi said this year’s Jamhuri celebrations will be under the theme of Tourism, Wildlife, and MICE.

He noted that they agreed to form a team to develop a comprehensive concept for the national celebrations.

"This year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations will be held under the general theme of Tourism, Wildlife, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions). Talanta Stadium will host the country on 12th December 2025.

"We held our first planning meeting with Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, where we agreed on forming an initial team to develop a comprehensive concept. Once the concept is finalized, detailed planning for the celebrations will begin," he said.
