Thousands of Kenyans on Friday, December 12, morning streamed into the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi to mark the 62nd Jamhuri Day Celebrations.
The gates to the 18,000-seater stadium were open from 4:00 AM, and by 8:00 AM majority of the seats had been filled.

President William Ruto is expected to lead the country during the Jamhuri Day celebrations, which will also feature military parades and performances.

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, who arrived in the country on Thursday night, will be the chief guest during the event.
Senior government officials, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and Chief Justice Martha Koome, are also expected to attend the celebrations at Nyayo Stadium.

Kenya became a republic on December 12, 1964, with Jomo Kenyatta inaugurated as the first President.
The theme of this year’s Jamhuri Day Celebration is tourism, wildlife, meetings, incentives, and exhibitions.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo on Thursday night conducted a final inspection at Nyayo Stadium ahead of the celebrations.

In a statement, PS Omollo called on Kenyans to turn up in numbers to mark the Jamhuri Day celebrations.
“Conducted the final inspection of Nyayo Stadium ahead of tomorrow's Jamhuri Day celebrations. All security, logistical, and operational preparations are fully in place.
“We call upon Kenyans from all walks of life to turn out in large numbers and join us as we mark our nation's 62nd Jamhuri Day,” said the Interior CS.

Meanwhile, the police have closed several roads in Nairobi ahead of the celebrations.
Addressing the media on Thursday, Nairobi Regional Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo outlined comprehensive traffic management plans and security measures for the national event.
"All the vehicles from Langata Road will be diverted on Madaraka Road roundabout to Lusaka Road roundabout, while the Aerodrome Wakihuri Road will be closed between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.," Kitiyo announced.
Motorists using the Nairobi Expressway will also face restrictions during the celebrations.
Vehicles traveling from Westlands will be required to exit at Bunyala starting from 7 a.m., while those coming from Mlolongo must exit at Capital Center. No vehicles will be permitted on the expressway section opposite Nyayo Stadium.
