Police in Mombasa have shot two suspected robbers and recovered motorbikes, mobile phones, crude weapons, and assorted items believed to have been stolen during robberies in Likoni.
According to the Mombasa police boss, the suspects were shot during a security operation as officers intensified patrols in the area.
Speaking after the operation, the county police commander commended officers for their efforts in maintaining security, noting that increased patrols were yielding results.
“I appreciate my officers for the good work and the way they are maintaining the ground and conducting their patrols,” he said.
He also appealed to members of the public to take greater responsibility during the festive season, especially now that schools are closed.

“Let each and every person take care of his children. We are in the festive season, and we must be accountable so that we ensure a safe environment,” he said.
The police boss further assured residents travelling outside Mombasa to visit loved ones that their properties would be protected, adding that officers are committed to ensuring peace and the safety of citizens and their belongings within the county.
He said police have leads on other suspects linked to the robberies, and investigations are ongoing.
“We have leads, and we shall pursue them because we have all the information, and very soon we shall arraign them, all of them, in court,” he said.

This comes five days after a separate incident in Nairobi’s Central Business District, where two suspected robbers were shot dead along Moi Avenue. Police said the two were part of a gang that had attacked a man who had withdrawn money from a bank on Kimathi Street.
The victim, an Embassava Matatu Sacco official who had withdrawn cash for office purposes, was accosted by a group of eight suspects while walking along Kimathi Lane. The gang attacked him and made off with an envelope containing the money. His cries for help attracted the attention of members of the public, causing commotion in the area.
Plainclothes officers from Nairobi Central Police Station had been observing the area and had noticed the group following the victim. As the suspects attempted to escape, they allegedly turned on the officers with knives, prompting police to open fire.
In that incident, officers recovered knives, mobile phones, and other items believed to have been stolen in previous robberies, as police intensified operations targeting criminal gangs operating in the city centre.
