Boost for Ruto as 20 Governors Endorse his 2022 Presidential Bid

Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid has received a major boost after over 20 governors vowed to rally behind his quest for the top seat.

Reports indicate that the DP has held over five separate meetings with 23 governors in the past few days with the agenda revolving around 2022.

The meetings and identity of the governors have reportedly been kept secret as most fear intimidation by the state over the decision to support DP Ruto.

Reports on a local daily indicate that the governors are mainly from; Mt Kenya, North Eastern, and the Rift Valley region.

Speaking during a recent interview, Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok who has been attending the meetings said they are working on a line-up for 2022, adding that 20 governors have already confirmed their support for the DP.

“About 20 are already on board and three are on their way to join us. They all yearn for a better Kenya where all our efforts will count. President Uhuru is retiring next year and we want a peaceful transition to a new era, a government elected by the people and for the people.

“We want real change where those in power will not use state privilege to advance personal interests. We need to consult on how to revive the economy that will create jobs for our youth so that we no longer need to rely on huge loans,” Nanok said.

According to Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua who’s a close ally of the DP, and one of the leaders that has been present in the meetings, the governors who’ve been attending the meeting secretly will most likely make their stand public at the end of this year.

 “We have had several strategy meetings on how to approach 2022. There is a tier of MPs, MCAs, and now governors. Remember that this administration has subjected governors and Cabinet secretaries among others to intimidation and threats of prosecution. That regime is coming to an end soon,” he opined.
