Sifuna is accused of sabotaging the broad-based government arrangement between the ODM and UDA parties.

Nandi senator Samson Cherargei now wants his Nairobi counterpart Edwin Sifuna removed from the secretary general post in ODM.

Cherargei accused Sifuna of sabotaging the Orange party, whose leadership is committed to the broad-based arrangement with the ruling UDA party.

The Nandi senator's offensive on Sifuna came after the latter chastised President William Ruto, who has been advancing the agenda to develop Kenya and make it first world like Singapore.

According to Sifuna, Ruto cannot purport to drive the country to success when he subscribes to the belief that leaders ought to develop their backyards first before thinking of any other part of the country.

This was after Ruto blasted Kalonzo for being in successive governments for decades without lobbying for development for his Ukambani region.

"Exactly the mentality that will get us to Singapore. Ati, when you get power, you start with yourself. Do I want the road to my village tarmacked? Yes. Is it a national priority to be elevated over, say, Bomas-Kiserian? No. In 2027 get rid of these dealers who think starting with themselves is the measure of leadership," Sifuna took on Ruto.

Nandi senator Samson Cherargei.

In his reaction, Cherargei observed that Sifuna was sabotaging the position of his party, which is to partner with the government.

As the ODM secretary general, Sifuna ought to be at the forefront championing the being of the broad-based government, Cherargei suggested.

That he is opposed to the arrangement, Sifuna ought to resign, or he be shown the door in ODM, the Nandi senator said.

According to Cherargei, Sifuna is an agent of the opposition charged with "wrecking the ship from within".

"I thought you had a Damascus moment about the successes of the broad-based government led by President Ruto and the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, but it looks like it was a lucid moment for your misguided attacks against. You cannot continue wrecking the ship from within; you either resign or be removed as secretary general of the ODM party or shape up because you are now a threat to Baba Raila Odinga's legacy. Go and join your partners in disunited opposition,' Cherargei told Sifuna.

Sifuna belongs to the faction in ODM which is opposed to the working pact the ODM party realised with UDA earlier this year.

In March this year, the late Raila Odinga led his party in signing a deal that would see his ODM party work with Ruto's government until 2027.

The partnership was founded on critical issues affecting the country, including the high cost of living, corruption, extrajudicial killings and strengthening devolution.

While alive, Raila insisted that the pact would end in 2027, often quashing the assertion that it was a soft launch for his partnership with Ruto in the general election.
