Inside Ruto’s 3-Day Meeting with Mt Kenya MPs

Deputy President William Ruto recently conveyed a three-day meeting with Mt. Kenya Members of Parliament in what is believed to be a strategy meeting for the region’s way forward come 2022.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is the defacto leader of the region and since he’ll be leaving office in 2022, other leaders have started strategizing how to get hold of the vote-rich region.

Reports indicate that the meeting brought together 16 Senate and National Assembly members from the region.

Sources privy to the meeting indicate that DP Ruto took the leaders through his economic plan for the country, where he advocated for the bottom-up economic model instead of top-down.

Reports indicate that those present deliberated on several issues involving the Mt Kenya region and how it will benefit economically if the DP becomes Kenya’s next president.

Some of the key issues discussed include; development of a framework for grassroots economic recovery, commencement of a discussion on how to empower small businesses, how to improve economic status of farmers, job creation, promotion of a healthy business environment among other issues affecting the region.

DP Ruto hosted the meeting after a section of Mt Kenya MPs led by Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua requested to know the economic plan the DP has for the region if he assumes office.

Meanwhile, the DP’s main challenger ODM Leader Raila Odinga recently met the Kikuyu Council of Elders at his Karen home.

Though it is not clear what they discussed, many believe the meeting had something to do with Kenya’s political scene.
