A fire broke out at former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's private office in Upper Hill on Friday night, August 7, prompting a swift response from the Nairobi County Fire and Emergency Response Team.
In a statement Saturday morning, August 8, Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria confirmed responding to the fire.
Mosiria said he was alerted directly by Sonko once the blaze started.
"Tonight, I received a distress call from the former Governor, H.E. Mike Sonko, whose private office in Upper Hill had caught fire. He requested that I send our County Fire Emergency Response Team to the scene," Mosiria said.
According to Mosiria, the fire team was dispatched immediately and moved to contain the blaze before it could spread further.

He was at the scene to oversee the operation.
Sonko, who survived the incident unhurt, took to social media to thank Mosiria and the county fire team for their swift intervention, framing his safety as an act of divine protection.
"The devil is a liar! Just look at how much God loves us. Imagine, He woke us up! Mosiria, thank you so much and to your entire team from Nairobi County. May God bless you abundantly," Sonko said.
Mosiria confirmed that the former governor was unharmed and urged the public to keep him in their prayers.
He further noted the irony of the rescue, pointing out that it was infrastructure built during Sonko's own tenure as governor that came to his aid on Friday night.
"I wish to confirm that H.E. Mike Sonko is safe, and there is no need for alarm. However, I encourage everyone to keep him in their prayers," he said.
"When H.E. Mike Sonko served as governor of Nairobi, he initiated the construction and equipping of the Kangundo Road and Waithaka fire stations. Today, the very systems he helped put in place have come to his rescue during a time of need," Mosiria added.
He used the incident to appeal to other leaders to invest in durable public systems, adding that Nairobi residents and well-wishers should continue to keep those affected in their thoughts.
