Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga has warned individuals planning to commit electoral-related offences ahead of the 2027 General Election that they will face the full force of the law.
Speaking on Monday, August 10, Ingonga said the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had put in place structures to ensure electoral offences are handled effectively during the election period.
"Speaking during the forum, DPP Ingonga explained that the Office has established a fully-fledged division dedicated to handling electoral-related offences, supported by specially trained prosecutors to ensure timely and effective prosecution of offences committed during the electoral period," the ODPP said in a statement.
Ingonga warned against attempts to interfere with the electoral process through criminal activities, including violence, hate speech, cybercrime and intimidation.
"The DPP warned individuals who may seek to disrupt the electoral process through violence, hate speech, cybercrime, intimidation or other criminal activities that they would face the full force of the law," the statement added.

Ingonga also highlighted challenges faced in prosecuting some hate speech cases, particularly those committed through digital platforms.
He noted that investigations can require access to digital evidence and confirmation from service providers operating outside Kenya.
"He, however, noted that prosecuting some hate speech offences, particularly those committed through digital platforms, presents challenges because investigators may require access to digital evidence and confirmation from service providers, many of whom are based outside Kenya," ODPP explained.
Ingonga assured Kenyans that the ODPP would collaborate with investigative agencies and other stakeholders to promote a peaceful electoral environment and ensure that those who commit electoral offences are held accountable.
"DPP Ingonga assured Kenyans that the Office would work closely with other stakeholders, including investigative agencies, to ensure that the 2027 elections are conducted in a peaceful environment and that electoral offenders are held accountable," the statement further read.
Ingonga further maintained that prosecution decisions would be made independently and based on evidence, with the law applied fairly to all individuals regardless of their status or affiliation.
"He further emphasized that the law would be applied fairly and without discrimination, noting that prosecution decisions are made independently and on the basis of evidence presented before the Office," the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has opened a tender for the supply of election material and technology ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a notice on Tuesday, August 11, IEBC invited tenders from interested bidders for the supply of ballot papers, tactile folders, register of voters and statutory election result declaration forms.
According to the commission, the deadline for submitting bids is September 1, 2026 at 12:00 PM.
"The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) invites tenders from interested eligible bidders for the Supply of the following," the notice read in part.
IEBC also announced a tender for the supply, installation, testing, commissioning, support and maintenance of the Integrated Elections Management System (IEMS), hardware equipment and accessories.
Further, IEBC said bidders seeking to participate in the tender are required to provide a bid security.
Companies bidding for the supply of ballot papers and other election materials will be required to provide a Ksh40 million bid security, while those seeking the KIEMs kits tenders will pay Ksh30 million.
IEBC emphasized that the bid securities must remain valid for 270 days after the bid submission deadline.
"All bids must be accompanied by a bid security of Ksh30,000,000 for Tender No. IEBC/OIT/01/2026-2027 and Ksh 40,000,000 for Tender No. IEBC/OIT/02/2026-2027 from a reputable financial institution, Insurance Company, or a banker’s cheque payable to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, and must be valid for 270 days after the bid submission deadline," the notice added.
The tender submission deadline is September 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
