The suspects surrendered to the police after the DCI nabbed their accomplices during an early raid.

Two suspects who were on the run following the murder of former Councillor Nathan Wasama have surrendered themselves to the police.

In a statement issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, August 12, Robert Kimutai Psisei alias Robert Miti and Brian Chongin Kaos surrendered themselves at Cheptais and Chwele Police Stations, respectively.

The two were arrested and booked ahead of processing to appear in court.

"Robert Kimutai Psisei, alias Robert Miti, surrendered at Cheptais Police Station this morning. He was arrested, escorted and booked at Sirisia Police Station.

"Another suspect, Brian Chongin Kaos, surrendered at Chwele Police Station, where he was taken into custody," the statement read in part.

The DCI confirmed that the two will be charged with murder, contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code.

The agency reaffirmed that it remained resolute in its efforts to expedite investigations into the murder. It also stated that it was still hunting down other suspects involved in the incident.

"Anyone with credible information that may assist detectives in apprehending the remaining suspects is urged to report to the nearest police station or contact the DCI through its toll-free hotline," the statement continued.

Earlier, the DCI confirmed that it had arrested three suspects in connection with Wasama's fatal shooting in Cheptais, Bungoma County.

The three include Oscar Koech Sakong, Wycliffe Chesubei Ngeiwa alias Chota, and Geoffrey Makwere Masai. The officers also recovered several weapons during the raid, including a military-style smoke jacket and a stun grenade.

Officers also recovered three axes, a crowbar, three folding pangas, two pangas, two knives, five arrows, three motorcycles, two mobile phones and an iPod.

The Directorate further warned members of the public against spreading unverified allegations that could prejudice the case, compromise investigations or threaten public safety.

The DCI further dismissed claims by DCP Leader Riagthi Gahagua that it was trying to cover up the slain businessman and politician's murder.
