Kikuyu Member of Parliament and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah has proposed plans to manage the country's population growth so that it does not become a burden.
Speaking ON Wednesday, August 12, during the National Conversation of Beyond 2030, he argued that there needs to be a balance between the population growth rate and the economy.
Ichung'wah stated that the country needs to plan for population growth.
"Population is a resource, but it can also be a burden to a nation's economy, and therefore there must be a very good balance between the rate at which our population grows and the rate at which we grow our economy," he stated.
Ichung'wah argued that when Singapore decided to change, one of the key policies they made was on the management of its population.

"When Singapore aspired to be what it is today, they had a consideration on their population growth and family planning.
"Esther Passaris reminds me that in 2008, the late President Mwai Kibaki did speak to us about the need to look at our population growth and how to plan for it," he added.
Meanwhile, he assured President William Ruto of the Parliament's support for Vision Beyond 2030. The MP even proposed the creation of new Parliamentary Committees that will go out and collect the Kenyans'opinions.
Ichung'wah further called for the Vision Beyond 2030 to be anchored in law for it to come into fruition, and stated that Parliament would make the necessary legislation when called upon.
On his part, ODM Leader Oburu Oginga maintained that the country needed to deal with corruption if it was keen on its dream to attain the Singapore status.

Oburu stated that the country needs to build a society that is completely intolerant of corruption, and avoid wastage in government.
"We must deal with this animal called corruption. It is very difficult to eliminate, but we can build a society which is non-tolerant to corruption, and those who are in government need to tighten their belts for the sake of the people of Kenya," he reiterated.
