National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has arrived in New Delhi, India, for an official visit to the Lok Sabha; the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of India.
In a statement on Thursday, August 13, Wetang’ula said the visit is at the invitation of his counterpart, Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla.
He said the two countries continue to maintain longstanding relations, including legislative exchanges between their Parliaments.
"Kenya and India share longstanding cordial friendship with strong legislative exchanges among the two Parliaments.
"I have arrived in New Delhi, India, for an Official Visit to the Lok Sabha at the invitation of my counterpart, the Hon. Shri Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha," Wetang'ula wrote.

Wetang’ula was received upon arrival by Kenya’s Deputy Head of Mission to India, Amb. Mary Mutuku, alongside Umeshbhai Babubhai Patel, a Member of the Lok Sabha.
He said his visit will focus on bilateral engagements intended to strengthen the existing friendship between Kenya and India, deepen parliamentary ties and enhance cooperation between the two countries.
"I look forward to productive bilateral engagements aimed at deepening the longstanding friendship, parliamentary ties and cooperation between Kenya and India," he added.
This comes days after Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi visited Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council.
In a brief statement on Monday, July 27, Mudavadi said Africa's future depended on decisions made collectively by its leaders, noting that engagements at the African Union provided an opportunity to strengthen the continent’s collective voice.
"Africa's future is shaped by the decisions we make together. Every engagement at the African Union is an opportunity to strengthen the continent's collective voice, deepen regional cooperation and unlock new opportunities for our people," he wrote.
Mudavadi said his visit had come ahead of the 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council, where Foreign Ministers from across the continent were expected to discuss key priorities shaping Africa’s future.
"Arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, ahead of the 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council, where Foreign Ministers from across the continent will deliberate on key priorities shaping Africa's peace, security, integration and sustainable development," he added.
Mudavadi reaffirmed that Kenya remained committed to supporting solutions led by African countries while championing a united, prosperous and globally competitive continent.
"Kenya remains committed to advancing African-led solutions and championing a united, prosperous and globally competitive continent," he further said.
Mudavadi added that discussions at the African Union meeting were expected to produce outcomes that would strengthen trade and investment while promoting regional stability.
"The outcomes of these discussions will help strengthen trade, investment, regional stability and economic opportunities that directly benefit Kenya and the wider African community," he concluded.
