Mombasa Governor Joho has been sentenced to 60-days in prison or pay a fine of Sh250,000.
Justice Munyao Sila on Friday found Governor Joho guilty of disobeying court directives by the demolition of private property.
Joho was found guilty of demolishing a perimeter wall in Changamwe on May 10, 2019, notwithstanding the existence of a court order.
“Kenyans love peace and would like to live in a country where leaders lead from the front in respecting the rule of law,” said Justice Sila. “We want to live in a country that respects the rule of law and obeys a court order,” Justice Sila said.
“There is not much remorse in Mr Hassan Joho’s mitigation statement, his apparent lack of remorse is very perturbing to this court,” he added.

The court further ruled that governor Joho will be held liable for any damages suffered by Mombasa businessman Ashok Doshi who owns the property.
Additionally, the court issued an arrest warrant for Governor Joho and Changamwe MCA Bernard Ogutu over the disregard of court orders.
Justice Sila ordered the two to be taken to the Shimo La Tewa prison until they provide proof of payment of the bail.
