Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has dismissed social media reports that the third term opening dates for basic education institutions and Teacher Training Colleges have been changed.
In a statement on Wednesday evening, August 19, CS Ogamba said the academic calendar remains unchanged.
“Our attention has been drawn to misleading information circulating on various social media platforms, purporting that the academic calendar for basic education institutions and Teacher Training Colleges has been changed.
“We wish to clarify that the academic calendar for basic education institutions and Teacher Training Colleges remains unchanged,” read the statement in part.
CS Ogamba said basic education institutions will open for the third term on Monday, August 24, 2026, and run until October 23, 2026.

Teachers Training Colleges will also reopen on August 24 but will close on November 6, 2026.
The Education CS also said national assessments and examinations will proceed as scheduled.
“National assessments and examinations will proceed as currently scheduled, in line with the timetable issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council,” CS Ogamba added.
Further, Ogamba urged parents, teachers, learners and members of the public to strictly rely on the Ministry's official communication channels and field officers for accurate information.
This comes weeks after CS Ogamba confirmed that the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has paid the areas owed to the 2025 KJSEA and KCSE examiners.
In a statement issued by CS Ogamba, he revealed that the money was wired into the examiners' accounts on Thursday, July 9.
The disbursement of the delayed funds came after the National Treasury released Ksh1 billion to clear the balances owed to the markers.
"We are pleased to inform all examiners who participated in the marking of the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination that the balance of their marking allowances has been disbursed to their respective accounts by the Kenya National Examinations Council.
The Cabinet Secretary expressed gratitude to the examiners for being patient despite the delay in the remittance of their allowances.
