Matiang'i stated that Uhuru had handed over a peaceful country and urged the current government to maintain the same.

Jubilee Presidential Aspirant Fred Matiang'i has maintained that politics should not be made a matter of do-or-die, and should not be used to turn Kenyans against one another.

Speaking in Meru County on Friday, August 21, Matiang'i stated that politics is not, and should never be, a reason for citizens to kill one another.

He added that Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta handed over to President William Ruto a peaceful country, and challenged the government in office to maintain the same standards.

"Kenya is a peaceful country. Uhuru Kenyatta handed over a peaceful country, and we have maintained it that way.

"Politics is not a good enough reason for us to kill each other," the former Interior Cabinet Secretary stated.

Matiang'i condemned the government for its lacklustre approach in addressing insecurity in the country, given the recent spike in crime and goon-related attacks.

He added that, never in his conscience as a leader, be proud of heading a country where machetes are openly distributed to Kenyans, not for farming, but to cause harm to their fellows.

The ex-CS noted that the incident in Homa Bay County had painted a clear picture of how the country had sunk into lawlessness. He said it was enough reason why he and other leaders want to unseat the current administration.

Elsewhere in Kakamega, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna condemned the Linda Mwananchi attack. However, he stated that he had no problem with the residents of Homa Bay, whom he described as very warm, receptive and democratic.

Sifuna claimed that the chaos was orchestrated by area leaders trying to prove to President Ruto that the area fully backed his re-election, even if that was not the truth.

He made it clear that he was not shaken by the attack and revealed that he once faced trigger-happy police officers during the cost of living demonstrations in 2023.

Earlier, Siaya Governor James Orengo announced that he would return to Homa Bay County. Orengo and other leaders further called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to look into the current situation, and recommended that the prosecutor open a file against Ruto, whom they claimed was responsible for political instability.
