Senator Edwin Sifuna of Nairobi has criticised President William Ruto for his claim that former President Uhuru Kenyatta was funding him, without providing any evidence.
Speaking on Tuesday, August 25, Sifuna stated that he expected Ruto to table intelligence he had received about Uhuru's alleged funding of Linda Mwananchi, rather than quoting newspapers.
Hw wondered how the Head of State now trusted the very newspapers, which he had sharply criticised for publishing propaganda against his government.
"When he was asked about proof, he said he read it in the newspapers. Shenzi sana! If he was smart, he could have even said he had received intelligence reports that Uhur and I met behind closed doors.
"You refer to newspapers, yet you hate them so much because of their headlines. When the newspapers told us about SHA and corruption, you said it's fake news, but you chose to believe in this one headline?" Sifuna posed.

The Nairobi Senator further dismissed Ruto over his consistent demands that he and Linda Mwananchi tell Kenyans about their manifesto.
He stated that every Kenyan had understood their plan and stated that it was ironic that, despite having a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Ruto did not.
"What I know is that Kenyans have understood our agenda, ni yeye ndyo mslow. When we talk about the software issues, a return to Constitutionalism and the rule of law and equality, Kenyans have understood. We just have one person with a PhD who has not understood," he stated.
Sifuna maintained that the medical cover provided under the Social Health Authority (SHA) is not working, and asked the President to stop lying to Kenyans.
He added that if anything was to go by, the President should be jailed for lying to Kenyans in 2022.
"I will not lie to Kenyans to get to office. In fact, what Ruto did in 2022 is obtaining power by false pretences. It is an offence for which he should be jailed," the outspoken leader noted.
His sentiments came after the President claimed that Uhuru was sponsoring candidates to run against him. The Retired President denied claims of sponsoring or endorsing anyone, adding that Kenyans have the right to elect anyone to lead the country, including the incumbent president.
