DCI confirmed that the alleged 'victim' in the video clip was a Member of Parliament.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has clarified that the incident captured on camera, where several individuals alighted from a vehicle and approached a motorist on the Nairobi Expressway, was not a robbery.

In a statement issued on Friday, September 4, the DCI confirmed that the incident involved members of the public trying to interact with a politician.

They identified the alleged victim as Kasarani Member of Parliament (MP) Ronald Karauri.

The Detectives summoned the MP alongside the owners of the vehicles captured in the viral video clip, who confirmed that the incident was not a robbery.

"The persons depicted in the clip, including the alleged victim, have been identified, summoned, and their statements recorded. Preliminary investigations, based on the recorded statements, indicate that the incident was not a robbery.

"The alleged victim has been identified as Hon. Ronald Karauri, Member of Parliament for Kasarani," the statement read.

However, the DCI confirmed that its officers launched a further inquiry to establish the full circumstances surrounding the event and the video's circulation.

Earlier, Karauri took to social media to denounce the goons' narrative. He confirmed that he was in one of the vehicles, and that he had to stop for safety reasons.

"I was on the passenger seat of the white car. I just want to calm everybody down because these are not goons.

"These were people that I was with. I was coming from a meeting with fellow Nairobians, and my doors could not close. Apparently, in that car, you can not lock the doors while it's moving. I had to stop on the expressway, and when they saw me stuck, they came to help me," the  MP stated.

He urged Kenyans to calm down as members of the public questioned the state of the country's security, asking if motorists can be robbed in broad daylight on an elevated highway.

Kenyans demanded that law enforcement take action and ensure that Kenyans are safe.
