President William Ruto joined thousands of Kenyan faithful for the Rhema Feast 2026 prayer conference at Uhuru Park on Friday, September 4.

President Ruto and First Lady Ruto met the clergy beforehand and sat through the three-hour service as speakers preached in line with the conference's theme, 'Come, Let Us Rebuild'.

He briefly addressed Kenyans attending the Rhema Feast after the sermon, expressing pleasure over the number of youths who turned up for the prayer feast.

"There is hope in Kenya. I am overwhelmed by what I see in the young people of our nation. You don't know how much confidence you give to our nation when you trust God.

"We thank God for the young people. We are privileged to be in a great nation, and I have so much confidence in its future," Ruto stated.

During the sermon, lead preacher Joshua Selman called on Kenyans to maintain peace. He further reminded the government of its responsibility to ensure security in the country.

"Nobody will come to invest in Kenya when there are security problems. The government has its role, and we pray that God will continue empowering the government." 

Selman further warned leaders against engaging in reckless talk that threatens peaceful co-existence among the citizens.

"When you are careless with words, you can heat the interiority. When we talk about security, we are not just talking about holding guns; speaking right is a contribution to security," he stated.

The Rhema Feast is a five-day event that ran from August 31 to September 4. The focus included spiritual reunion, prayer, worship, and biblical teaching aimed at rebuilding families, communities and nations.

Selman's statement about the country's security came amid a series of events that raised questions about the safety of Kenyans, including the alleged abduction of a Standard Media Group editor, Alex Kiprotich.

Kiprotich was taken hostage by masked gunmen along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway and released after a couple of hours. 

Media practitioners and leaders in the United Opposition demanded answers from the government and law enforcement about the incident and the arrest of the perpetrators.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen expressed regret over the incident, while police Inspector General Douglas Kanja confirmed that investigations were ongoing.
