Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspect and rescued two minors who were allegedly abducted in Mombasa County. 

In a statement on Sunday, September 6, DCI said the two minors were abducted on August 25, 2026, in the Sensera area in Kiembeni. 

According to DCI, Caleb Okumu Ngwena allegedly committed the offence with an accomplice who remains at large.

“Detectives from Kisauni Sub-County have arrested a key suspect in connection with the abduction of two minors and successfully rescued the children, who were reported missing on 27 August 2026.

“Investigations have established that Caleb Okumu Ngwena, acting with an accomplice who remains at large, abducted the two minors on 25 August 2026 at Sensera in Kiembeni,” read the statement.

The investigative agency noted that the suspects forced the children to cut off all communication with their families before transferring them to Kiambu County. 

The two minors were confined in an empty room where one of them was allegedly sexually assaulted.

“The principal suspect is alleged to have sexually assaulted one of the minors,” DCI stated. 

Ngwena is scheduled to be arraigned before a court on Monday, September 7, 2026 to face charges relating to defilement, kidnapping, and child trafficking.

“The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned in court tomorrow, Monday, 7 September 2026, where he is expected to face charges of defilement, kidnapping and child trafficking,” DCI said. 

Further, the agency said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident, identify the second suspect, and arrest him. 

This comes days after officers rescued four minors aged between 1 and 17 years from a child trafficker following a multi-agency operation. 

According to the DCI, officers from the agency, alongside their colleagues from the Kenya Police Service (KPS) and Administration Police Service (APS), arrested a suspected notorious child trafficker on Friday, September 3.

The suspect, Enock Peterson Mwangi alias Mwamburi, was nabbed at Korompoi Trading Centre in Isinya Sub-County.

"The suspect was arrested following investigations into his involvement in child trafficking.

"At the time of his arrest, four minors aged between one and seventeen years were rescued from a bedsitter where the suspect was residing," DCI said.
