Wavinya Ndeti Mourns Death of Machakos Referral Hospital CEO

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has mourned the death of Winfred Nzuki, the Chief Executive Officer of Machakos County Referral Hospital, who passed away following a short illness.

In a statement on Thursday, September 10, Ndeti described Nzuki as a dedicated public servant whose leadership and commitment had contributed significantly to the county’s health sector.

"It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I announce the passing on of Madam Winfred Nzuki, the Chief Executive Officer of Machakos County Referral Hospital, following a short illness," she wrote.

Ndeti said Nzuki’s service had made a significant impact on healthcare delivery in Machakos County, noting her commitment to serving residents.

"Madam Winfred was a dedicated public servant whose commitment, leadership and service to the people of Machakos County made a significant impact on our health sector," she added.

Ndeti further praised Nzuki for her professionalism and dedication during her tenure as the head of the county referral facility.

"During her tenure, she served with professionalism, compassion and unwavering dedication to improving the quality of healthcare services in our premiere health facility. 

"Her passing is a great loss to the Country, the County Government of Machakos, the Department of Health, her colleagues, friends, and, most importantly, her family and loved ones," she further said.

Ndeti extended her condolences to Nzuki’s family, saying the County Government of Machakos and her family stood with them during the difficult period.

"On behalf of the County Government of Machakos, my family, and on my own behalf, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of Madam Winfred Nzuki during this difficult time. May God grant you strength, comfort and peace as you mourn this great loss," she concluded.

This comes days after the Kenya Prisons Service announced the death of Senior Superintendent of Prisons (SSP) Alex Kazungu, the Officer in Charge of Mombasa Remand Prison, who died alongside his daughter in a road accident in Machakos County.

In a statement on Tuesday, August 25, Commissioner General of Prisons Patrick Aranduh said the two died in a fatal road traffic accident at Konza.

"It is with profound sadness that I announce the tragic passing of SSP Alex Kazungu, Officer in Charge, Mombasa Remand Prison, and his beloved daughter, who both lost their lives in a fatal road traffic accident at Konza, Machakos County," he wrote.

Aranduh extended condolences to Kazungu's family, relatives, colleagues and those who worked with him at Mombasa Remand Prison.

"On behalf of the Kenya Prisons Service fraternity and on my own behalf, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, relatives, colleagues, and the entire Mombasa Remand Prison fraternity," he added.

Aranduh described Kazungu as an officer who served the Kenya Prisons Service with dedication, saying his death and that of his daughter represented a significant loss to both the Service and his family.

"SSP Kazungu served the Service with dedication and commitment. His passing, together with that of his daughter, is a profound loss to the Kenya Prisons Service and to their family. 

"During this difficult period, may the family, relatives and colleagues find strength and comfort. May their souls rest in Eternal Peace," he concluded.
