Senators took a moment to honour late former Kenya Rugby Sevens captain and head coach Benjamin Ayimba.

Senators today, May 25, 2021, took minutes off their busy schedule to honour late former Shujaa Head Coach Benjamin Ayimba.

Ayimba passed on while receiving treatment for cerebral malaria at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on May 22.

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja recognised Ayimba's achievements with the Kenya Rugby Sevens teams spanning two decades both as a player and head coach.

"We salute the strength and persistence of this fallen hero. He was a pacesetter and a good example to other talented and upcoming rugby sportsmen. He was indeed a class example of resilience following passion against all odds," Sakaja eulogised.

He recognised the former rugby captain for his efforts in giving back to the community, setting up multiple rugby academies in the country.

Sakaja described Ayimba's efforts on and off the pitch as a great symbol of patriotism.

"Quite literally he is gone, but his mark on Kenyan rugby will remain forever," Sakaja stated.

The senator expressed gratitude to members of the public and leaders who contributed towards his medical bills and in comforting the family.
