Orengo promised to issue a comprehensive response to Ruto over the subtle attack on Raila in due time.
Siaya Governor James Orengo has called out President William Ruto for referring to the late Raila Odinga as Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta's project during his tour of the Nyanza Region.
Speaking on Monday, September 21, Orengo stated that he was offended by the remarks, which he described as derogatory.
He added that the President's claim that he beat Uhuru and his 'project' in the 2022 General Election was inaccurate and promised to issue a comprehensive response.
"He characterised Raila Odinga as a project. Those were very serious and derogatory remarks about Raila, and in the fullness of time we will have our time to respond to him," he stated.
Orengo reminded Ruto that he was the one who betrayed Raila most politically, citing the events in the 2013, 2017 and 2022 General Elections.

"It was Ruto who walked out on Raila. It was he who stole his elections, and it was he who, in his very first term, started a systematic engagement in abductions, extrajudicial killings of very many Kenyans," he added.
The Siaya Governor made the statement during a joint presser with Kalonzo Musyoka, who announced that the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance Party had rebranded to the Ukombozi Alliance.
He commended Kalonzo for the rebranding and continued discussions to bring all leaders in the Opposition to work together to kick Ruto out of office in 2027.
"I want to encourage the team that the time is now, and we must get into the business of building this coalition. It is not easy, but at the end of the day, the slogan of one team, one team, one coalition will be a reality," Orengo stated.
On his part, Kalonzo stated that several leaders, including former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, would join the rebranded alliance.
Chief Justice Emeritus David Maraga sent former MP Agostinho Neto to represent his United Green Movement party at the meeting.
