Pauline said that a smaller executive structure within a coalition provides agility.

Digital Strategist Pauline Njoroge has argued that only Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Jubilee's Fred Matiang'i have attained the principal level in the United Opposition.

In a statement issued on Monday, September 21, Njoroge explained that Sifuna, Kalonzo, Matiang'i and Gachagua all had significant influence in their respective political constituencies.

"I believe the principal-level leadership of the emerging coalition should comprise Sifuna, Gachagua, Kalonzo and Matiang'i. Each commands a significant political constituency and brings to the table the electoral weight necessary to shape a viable national coalition," she stated

The strategist acknowledged that while several leaders had joined the 'Wantam' movement, it was important to have a few principals, which would make the decision-making process efficient.

She explained that, just as in the United Nations, broad participation provides legitimacy, while a smaller executive structure provides agility.

"The coalition’s top decision-making organ must remain lean, strategic and capable of responding quickly to political developments.

"Its membership should be based not merely on ownership of a political party, but on demonstrable national influence and a solid regional support base," she reiterated.

Njoroge explained that the other political leaders with less significant influence could still contribute towards the shaping of the emerging coalition through a broad Coalition Parties Council.

She said that the Council will bring together the leaders of all constituent parties. According to her, coalitions need to strike the balance between inclusivity and agility.

The former Jubilee Party Deputy Organising Secretary noted that for a coalition to be effective, it must be inclusive enough to accommodate every genuine partner, but disciplined enough to make timely decisions and provide clear political direction. 

Earlier, Kalonzo announced the rebranding of the Azimio Coalition into the Ukombozi Alliance. He confirmed that several party leaders, including ex-Meru Governor Kawira Mwanagaza, had shown interest in joining the coalition.

The Wiper Leader reiterated that the United Opposition will remain united until and after the 2027 Election. He dismissed the infighting among member parties as minor issues which can be resolved.
