Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has recalled being subjected to an interview ahead of the 2022 General Election. 

Speaking on Wednesday, September 23, in Kyuso, Kitui County, Kalonzo described the interview as a painful experience. 

The former Vice President noted that in the 2013 and 2017 General Elections, when he and the late Raila ran together, he was not required to undergo an interview. 

“It was a very painful experience being subjected to an interview in 2022. When we were running together with Raila in 2012 and 2017, he did not subject me to an interview. 

“But in 2022, I was told that Kalonzo had to undergo an interview,” Kalonzo recounted.

The Wiper leader said he agreed to participate in the interviews despite objections from his supporters. 

Kalonzo added that he urged them to remain patient despite their disappointment and anger.

“I decided to go for the interview, but my supporters were deeply hurt and became angry. However, I told them, Patience pays,” said Kalonzo. 

In May 2022, Kalonzo was among the candidates who appeared before an Azimio council panel for vetting for the position of running mate.

However, the panel recommended Martha Karua for the position, and she was subsequently selected as Raila’s running mate in the 2022 General Election.

This comes a day after retired President Uhuru Kenyatta claimed that Raila won the 2022 presidential election.

Speaking on Tuesday, September 22, Uhuru, who was serving as President when the election was held, said his administration and allies had done everything possible to support Raila's presidential bid.

He said the votes cast in the election were enough, in his view, to establish Raila as the rightful winner of the presidential contest.

"We did everything we could to help Raila Odinga become President of Kenya, and he was given the votes. Even today, I know that Baba won that election.

"We know how things went down, and we don’t want that to happen again," he said.
