Babu Owino Reveals How Many Kenyans Have Registered to Join His Party

Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has confirmed that 660,008 Kenyans have joined The Mwananchi Party (TMP).

In an update issued on Friday, September 25, Babu stated that the numbers were as at 5 p.m. on September 24. He termed the fete as record-breaking.

The legislator said TMP is breaking party registration records and thanked Kenyans for their overwhelming support.

"In just 6 days, The Mwananchi Party has registered a total of 660,008 members. This remarkable milestone reflects the trust, confidence and support that Kenyans are placing in TMP.

"We thank you, Kenya, for believing in The Mwananchi Party," the lawmaker reiterated.

Babu welcomed Kenyans to join his party and register as members through the USSD code provided by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties. In a registration drive dubbed 'Chama Chetu ni TMP ', he explained why voters should join his party.

"We envision a government that delivers, removes unnecessary barriers to enterprise, uses public resources responsibly and measures success by the opportunities and value it creates for citizens," the Embakasi East MP wrote.

The code *509# allows Kenyans to register, check membership status and resign from political parties on their mobile phones. 

Kenyans need to key in their national identification card numbers and their first name as it appears on their ID cards. Upon completion, they will receive a message from the ORPP confirming their status.

Earlier, Babu revealed that he would run for Governor under TMP.  He explained that he formed his party to avoid suffering the same fate as former governors who were impeached.

He added that he plans to have several candidates run for Member of County Assembly (MCA) positions in Nairobi, using his party to back him once he takes over City Hall.

The MP announced that he would not attend all Linda Mwananchi rallies because he planned to focus on his gubernatorial campaigns.
