Kindiki said that the government cannot allow the deaths caused by illicit brew and counterfeit alcohol to continue.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has vowed to take action following the increased number of deaths among Kenyan youths related to the consumption of counterfeit alcohol and illicit brew.
Speaking in Nyeri County on Friday, September 25, Kindiki said that he had convened a meeting with Police IG Douglas Kanja, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS)to address the menace.
The meeting will take place at his Karen office, where the leaders of the government agencies and law enforcement are expected to come up with an effective solution to the menace.
"There are some poisonous alcoholic drinks which are causing havoc to our youth, and we cannot allow that to continue. I have asked all leaders in the security docket to my office in Karen so that we can address the issue.
"I have also asked KRA, Anti-Counterfeit Authority, and KEBS to meet me because we must ensure that the alcoholic drinks in the country meet the required standard," Kindiki announced.

The DP reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving the lives of youths by creating employment opportunities for them.
"More jobs for the youth are being created in the construction sector, recruitment of teachers, security and public officers, the overseas job placement programme and the digital jobs being created through jitume labs and ICT hubs," he stated.
His declaration came just days after President William Ruto's ex-advisor Moses Kuria accused him of not taking the fight against alcoholism in Mount Kenya as seriously as he should.
Kuria took a swipe at Kindiki, accusing him of failing to match the seriousness with which his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, tackled the illicit alcohol trade in the Mt Kenya region.
He referenced a funeral where mourners were burying a relative whose death was linked to alcohol abuse.
"Give credit where it is due. Rigathi Gachagua was serious about fighting illicit brews in the Mt Kenya region. The current holder of that office is not. This woman would not have gone through this pain," Kuria reiterated.
