The four were convicted of four counts of murder after they killed the late Muchai, his driver, and two bodyguards.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has secured the conviction of four men who killed former Member of Parliament George Muchai, his two bodyguards and a driver.

The DPP confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 29, that Milimani High Court Judge Kanyi Kimondo convicted Erick Munyera Isabwa, Raphael Kimani Gacii, Mustafa Kimani Anyonyi, and Stephen Asitiva Lipapo for the four counts of murder.

Justice Kimondo decided after the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused killed Muchai, PC Samuel Kimathi Kailikia, PC Samuel Lekakeny Matanta, and PC Stephen Ituu Wambugu.

"The four accused persons were convicted after the High Court established that the Prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt by demonstrating that the accused persons acted with a common purpose," the statement read.

37 witnesses testified in court, including a newspaper vendor who saw the entire murder unfold moments after attending to the MP, who was a regular customer.

"As he prepared to hand over some newspapers, another saloon car blocked Muchai's vehicle before a masked man carrying a G3 rifle emerged from the co-driver's side, and shots rang out," the DPP reported.

Other witnesses included Michael Gituto, whose vehicle was stolen by the four convicts and used to block the MP's car the following day when he was murdered, and two sisters who were carjacked after the crime was committed.

The Court ordered for the accused's previous records to be obtained, and the Probation Department to prepare the Pre-sentence report and Victim Impact Statements. Justice Kimondo set December 16 for the Sentencing Hearing.

The accused are currently serving a death sentence after the court had earlier convicted them of robbery with violence.

"The prosecution proved that on the nights of 6th and 7th February 2015, the four accused persons violently robbed Michael Ngatia, Gladys Waithera, and Irene Muthoni on separate occasions while armed with a G3 rifle and pistols and threatened to use violence against them," the statement read.
