Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said the extension will allow facilities still undertaking the transition to fully comply with the directive.
The Ministry of Health has announced an additional one-month extension for health facilities that have not yet completed the transition from the Provider Portal to the Health Management Information System (HMIS).
In a statement on Thursday, October 1, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said the extension will allow facilities still undertaking the transition to fully comply with the directive.
"The Ministry of Health wishes to update the public and all stakeholders on the progress of the transition from the Provider Portal to the Health Management Information System (HMIS), as the country moves towards a fully digital and paperless health information system," the statement read.
Duale said significant progress had been recorded across public, faith-based and private health facilities, with thousands of facilities already operating under the HMIS system.
"The transition has progressed well, with significant milestones achieved across public, faith-based, and private health facilities," the statement added.

According to Duale, all 6,427 public Level 2–4 health facilities had successfully transitioned to HMIS, marking the completion of the process across the entire category.
At the Level 5 tier, four public facilities have fully transitioned, while 23 others are at different stages of the process.
The government expects all public Level 5 facilities to complete the transition by October 30.
The government is also supporting 518 contracted faith-based health facilities with the installation and transition to HMIS.
So far, 38 of these facilities have completed the process, with the remaining facilities expected to transition by October 30.
National Government Level 6 facilities have also made progress, with Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) expected to complete their transition by the end of next week.
The remaining National Government Level 6 facilities are expected to complete the transition by October 30.

In the private sector, facilities operating existing HMIS platforms have started the certification of their systems in accordance with the Digital Health Act.
The Digital Health Agency (DHA) has so far certified 28 existing HMIS platforms.
"This is an important step towards standardization and interoperability of health information systems and strengthening the quality and security of health data. The DHA will undertake Rapid Results Initiatives (RRI) with private health facilities throughout October to provide technical support and accelerate completion of the transition," the statement further read.
Duale said the additional one-month extension was granted to give facilities that are yet to complete the transition more time to comply with the directive.
He assured Kenyans that the ongoing migration would not interfere with access to healthcare services, including at facilities that have not completed the transition.
"The Ministry of Health emphasizes that no patient will be denied access to healthcare services because a facility has not yet fully transitioned to HMIS. Patients will continue to receive services at all health facilities during this transition period. The ongoing migration to HMIS will therefore not disrupt access to healthcare services," the statement noted.
Duale urged facilities that are yet to complete the migration to speed up the process and seek technical assistance from the Digital Health Agency where necessary.
"All facilities that have not yet completed the transition are urged to expedite the process without further delay and to engage the Digital Health Agency for any technical assistance required," the statement concluded.
This comes days after the Social Health Authority (SHA) revised the dates for surveillance and verification of pending defunct NHIF claims involving Level 4 healthcare facilities.
In a notice on Monday, September 28, the authority said the changes affect facilities listed in a revised schedule issued by SHA following an earlier notice dated September 18, concerning pending claims valued at Ksh10 million or above.
"The Social Health Authority (SHA) informs Level 4 healthcare facilities listed in the revised schedule that their surveillance and verification dates have changed.
"This follows our notice dated 18 September 2026 regarding pending defunct NHIF claims of KES 10 million or above," the notice read.
SHA said the affected healthcare facilities should review the updated schedule to establish their new verification dates and prepare the necessary documentation before the exercise.
"Affected facilities are requested to check the revised schedule, note their new dates, and have the required claim supporting documents ready for verification," the notice added.
