A chopper that had earlier ferried former Prime Minister Raila Odinga crashed in Gem Constituency.
A statement from the ODM leader's team indicated that the helicopter had just dropped off Mr Odinga who got into the Presidential entourage.
But the chopper had a passenger on board who sustained minor injuries.
"Former Prime Minister Raila Odina is safe following an incident in which a chopper that had flown him from Kisumu to Gem in Siaya County crashed shortly after dropping him and his entourage of four people," the statement read.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had earlier arrived in Kisumu County ahead of Madaraka day celebrations on Tuesday. The Head of State was received by the former premier and Kisumu Governor Ayang' Nyong'o.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Kisumu for a three-day working tour of Nyanza Region during which he will visit several Government projects.
"Also on the President's diary is a two-day State Visit by his Burundi counterpart His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, and the 58th Madaraka Day Celebrations at the new Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu County," tweets by State House read.
In an update by State House spokesperson Kanze Dena, the venue for Madaraka Day remains the new Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium, Mamboleo but admission to the stadium will be strictly by an invitation card.
