Wandayi said that matters of fuel prices were above Gachagua's pay grade.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi called out DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua over claims that there was a plan by the government to increase fuel prices and the profit margins channelled to fund President William Ruto's campaign.
Speaking in West Pokot County on Wednesday, October 14, Wandayi termed Gachagua's remarks as nonsense and accused him of attacking him and Ruto because of their tribal background.
He added that neither he nor the President had control over fuel prices, adding that it was the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority's mandate.
"Wamunyoro, Kenya has never lacked fuel, even before the Middle East. Secondly, it is EPRA's responsibility to set the fuel prices in the country, but I know you cannot understand that because you are a one-term MP who contributed nothing when in Parliament," Wandayi stated.

The Energy CS sensationally claimed that Gachagua was bitter because his impeachment as Deputy Deputy President closed all avenues which he allegedly used to extort oil marketing companies.
He further warned him against constantly attacking the Head of State and urged him to address him on matters of fuel and electricity, which are in his docket,
"Before you were impeached as DP, you used to extort oil marketing companies. Ruto is not at your level; if you have issues about fuel and energy, face me, and I will handle you appropriately. You don't have the mental capacity to lecture us about fuel and electricity," the CS reiterated.
Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot also launched a gloves-off attack on the former DP. Cheruiyot said that the issue of fuel prices was very complicated and above Gachagua's thinking and pay grade.
Earlier, Gachagua claimed that the cost of petrol and diesel is set to increase by Ksh12 and Ksh9 per litre respectively during the October-November review.
He claimed that the money will be directed to Ruto, who has been allegedly facing cash demands from Kenyans during campaigns. The DCP Leader added that Wandayi will be used to create a narrative which Kenyans should reject.
"Cash is running out, especially after that Zimbabwean crook died with his cash. Desperate to raise more cash, last evening, he ruthlessly ordered an increase in the price of diesel by Ksh9 and petrol by Ksh 12, to be processed through Gulf Energy for political bribery.
"That so-called expert, Mr Opiyo Wandayi, has been instructed to call a press conference and justify the increase, citing global prices. Pure lies and conmanship! It is all lies! The extra cash is for bribing voters," Gachagua wrote.
