This comes a day after detectives arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal stabbing of Paul Mwangangi, a shoe trader at Kariokor Market.
In a statement on Wednesday October 14, DCI said Mwangangi was stabbed on Monday October 12 along Landhies Road, opposite the Muthurwa Market footbridge.
"Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of a shoe trader at Kariokor Market have arrested two suspects in a breakthrough that marks a significant step forward in the probe into the brutal killing.
"The victim, Paul Mwangangi, was reportedly stabbed along Landhies Road, opposite the Muthurwa Market footbridge, on October 12, 2026," the statement read.
Police officers who rushed to the scene found Mwangangi lying face down, with a fresh stab wound to the chest.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) detectives processed and documented the scene, while the body of the trader was moved to City Mortuary for preservation pending autopsy.
In a follow-up operation, detectives from DCI Central and Kamukunji, working alongside their counterparts from the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Office, acted on actionable intelligence and trailed the suspects to a hideout in Kayole.
The suspects Joseph Kimani Ndungu, alias Bajong, and Peter Kimani Githinji, alias Denoo were arrested and escorted to Kamukunji Police Station and placed in custody pending further investigations and arraignment.
During the operation, the detectives recovered a Maasai sword bearing bloodstains, suspected to have been used in the killing.
The weapon has been secured as exhibit for further forensic examination.
"The DCI remains committed to pursuing all leads, establishing the circumstances surrounding his death and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice in accordance with the law," the statement added.
