The Ministry of Health has confirmed a new Ebola case, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to eight.

Speaking on Sunday, October 18, Director General for Health Patric Amoth said the new case involves a 49-year-old patient attendant.

Amoth noted that the patient had developed symptoms including fever, headache, and muscle pain before testing positive for Ebola.

“The cases have increased by one. Today we tested 38 persons; one turned positive- not a direct health care worker, a patient attendant, a 49-year-old gentleman who developed symptoms of fever, headache, and muscle pain, and his test came out positive,” he said.

The Health Director General said the patient has been isolated and was being prepared for compassionate treatment.

Amoth also said all the seven Ebola patients had received monoclonal antibody treatment and were responding well.

“He has now been isolated, and we are preparing to start the compassionate treatment that we have administered to all the seven other persons. I can confirm that all the patients have received monoclonal antibodies.

“Those who have received the monoclonal antibodies are responding very well. The 65-year-old patient is doing well,” Amoth added.

This comes a day after the Ministry of Health confirmed four new cases of Ebola.

In a statement on Saturday, October 17, the Ministry said all four patients developed fever as their first symptom before being isolated and tested for the disease.

"All four individuals developed fever as the first symptom and were immediately isolated and specimens collected for testing. They all tested positive for Ebola (Bundibugyo Virus Disease) at both the National Virology Reference Laboratory and the KEMRI laboratory," the statement read.

The male relative had been in quarantine since October 6, 2026, while the three health workers, comprising two men and one woman aged 29, 35 and 32, respectively, had been in quarantine since October 9.

The health workers had attended to the index case at the hospital between October 3 and 4, 2026. They are currently receiving supportive care at the designated treatment facility.
