"For the past four years, strategic government investment has been rapidly transforming Homa Bay Town from a sleepy lakeside centre into a modern urban hub, with improved roads, housing, sports facilities and fish-market infrastructure, positioning it for greater commercial activity and tourism," he wrote.
Road infrastructure has been among the key areas of investment, with the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) overseeing upgrades aimed at improving connectivity across Homa Bay.

Among the major projects was the Got Rabuor-Homa Bay Pier-Corner Kodoyo road, which was commissioned by President William Ruto in September 2026.
Other works included the upgrading of inner roads, construction of pedestrian walkways and improvements to drainage systems to ease movement and support businesses.
The government has also invested in housing and fisheries infrastructure through the Affordable Housing Programme and the development of a modern fish market equipped with cold-storage facilities.
"The transformation extends beyond roads. The Government's Affordable Housing Programme has delivered 110 homes in Homa Bay, while the modern fish market provides cold storage and improved trading facilities to reduce fish losses and support the Blue Economy," he added.

The town's sports infrastructure has also received a major boost through the upgrading of Raila Odinga Stadium to a 12,000-seat facility.
The stadium is expected to provide a venue for sporting competitions, talent development and national events, further strengthening Homa Bay's capacity to host major activities.
Omollo said the various projects formed part of a broader government strategy to improve the town's infrastructure and create an environment conducive to economic growth.
"Together, these investments signal a deliberate shift towards a better-connected, more orderly and economically vibrant Homa Bay, positioning the lakeside town as a growing centre for trade, tourism and urban development," he further said.

Elsewhere, Migori County’s Lichota Airport is undergoing an upgrade that will enable the facility to handle up to 500,000 passengers annually.
In a statement on Thursday, October 29, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the project, being implemented by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), will replace the airport’s existing basic waiting facilities with a modern passenger terminal equipped to accommodate growing domestic and international travel needs.
"The ongoing development of the Lichota Passenger Terminal in Migori County underscores the role of modern transport connectivity in driving regional growth, expanding trade and investment, and linking local economies to wider markets," he wrote.
Omollo said the new terminal will feature separate domestic and international passenger zones, alongside Customs and Immigration facilities to support passenger processing and cross-border movement.
The upgrade will also integrate the terminal with the airport’s expanded two-kilometre runway, which is intended to support larger commercial aircraft and enhance the facility’s capacity to handle air traffic.
Omollo said the improved infrastructure was expected to create new economic opportunities for Migori County and neighbouring areas by facilitating trade, attracting investors and supporting tourism.
"The facility is expected to boost cross-border trade, attract investment and open up tourism opportunities across Migori and the wider region," he added.
Security and border management will also be important components of the airport’s operations once the upgraded facilities are in use.
Omollo said the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration would play a key role in coordinating security and border control arrangements.
"The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration will be instrumental in coordinating security and border control operations, ensuring safe, orderly and efficient movement of passengers and goods," he concluded.
