Gachagua challenged President William Ruto to live up to the pact he made with former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013.
Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Leader Rigathi Gachagua challenged President William Ruto to live up to the pact he made with former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013.
Speaking in Wamunyoro on Wednesday, November 4, Gachagua reminded Ruto that he and Uhuru took a vow that the Kalenjin and Kikuyu communities in Nakuru would never clash because of political differences.

He urged the Head of State to promise that peace will prevail in Nakuru County, especially for Mount Kenya community members, whether or not they decide to vote for him or another candidate.
"Nakuru had ethnic clashes in 1992, 1997 and 2007. In 2013, Uhuru and Ruto had a meeting, and we agreed to have peace. The two of them swore that Kikuyus and Kalenjins will never fight again because of politics, so I am asking William Ruto to keep his promise."

"We must not vote for him for there to be peace. He should not claim that for peace to prevail, we should," Gachagua reiterated.

The former Deputy President said that the Kalenjin residents in Nakuru had assured him that there would be peace whether Ruto is elected, and dared the president to give the same assurance.
He added that there was no bad blood between the Mount Kenya and Rift Valley Communities, and that the issue was the President, not his tribesmen.
"I have spoken to his community, and they have assured me that everyone is free to vote for whoever they want, and the two communities will continue living in peace regardless of the outcome of the general election.
"As the Kikuyu Community, we do not have any problem with Kalenjins, but with Ruto. They should not bear the brunt of Ruto's mistakes," he said.
His statement came days after he claimed that he would flee to the United States of America if his former boss is re-elected to office.
Kikuyu Member of Parliament (MP) Kimani Ichung'wah accused him of fear-mongering and spreading hate. Ichung'wah reminded the DCP Leader that the Mount Kenya community needs to co-exist with other communities.
On the other hand, Kisii Governor Simba Arati said that Gachagua will not be allowed to leave the country if he caused chaos after the 2027 election.
