Gachagua lamented that most of the members of Parliament from Mount Kenya are 'tugeges'.

On Wednesday, November 4, DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua said the one thing he will always admire the late Raila Odinga for is how he built a big and strong political party.

Gachagua added that under Raila, ODM survived four elections, unlike most parties which died or were absorbed whenever the country went into an election.

He said Raila made ODM a cut above the rest by ensuring that every leader handed a party ticket was intelligent and of sound mind and principles.

The DCP Leader took a swipe at Mount Kenya Region, which he claimed, in most cases, sends below-par leaders who are easily compromised to Parliament.

"I admire the late Raila Odinga for one great thing he did; he formed a party called ODM. A big party. He then made sure it had intelligent MPs, unlike our 'tugeges'.

"I want to build on what Raila did. I want to build a strong political party that will not be wound up after every election because ODM has lasted for 20 years," Gachagua said.

The former Deputy President noted that the late Raila knew how to survive in political coalitions, and the role a strong political party played in it.

He admitted that one of the mistakes he made in 2022 was to allow President William Ruto to convince him to endorse 'unprincipled idiots' for parliamentary seats.

"We have understood that the secret to succeeding in a coalition is to have your own party that is strong.

"You know, because Kasongo knew that he was going to ditch us, he ensured that the MPs from this region were idiots. He then bribed them to betray the community," Gachagua claimed.

Earlier, the DCP Leader urged President Ruto to honour a pact he made with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, that there would be no political tension between Kalenjins and Kikuyus in the Rift Valley region.

He added that the Mount Kenya community did not have any grievances with their Kalenjin counterparts, but with the President individually.
