"I am making a clarion call for Merus to unite so that we can salvage the country from the hole we have been sunk into by the cartels that I have mentioned. We need to bring the county to where it needs to be in terms of development," Baichu stated.

The former Meru County First Gentleman revealed that he will run under the Umoja na Maendeleo Party (UMP), where he is the party leader.
He accused current leaders from the country, especially those running for Governor, of dividing the people along political lines.
Earlier, Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi also declared interest in contesting for Meru County Governor under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.
He claimed that the decision was in response to a call from the people of Meru, who wanted him to steer the county forward beyond 2027.
"I have heard the call from the people for me to lead them as their Governor. We as the UDA will not sit and watch as the governor's seat goes to the Opposition," Murungi said.
Baichu and Murungi will face off with former Governor Peter Munya, former Senator Mithika Linturi and incumbent Governor Isaac Mutuma on the ballot.
