Former Mombasa Gubernatorial aspirant Suleiman Shahbal has quit the President Uhuru Kenyatta led party.
In a statement seen by Nairobi Leo, Shahbal who contested for a gubernatorial seat on a Jubilee ticket in 2017 resigned from the party on Tuesday, July 6th.
"In exercise of my constitutional and legal rights to belong to a political party of my choice and guided by the law through section 14 of the political Parties Act, 2011, I wish to resign as a member of the Jubilee Party,” read Shahbal’s statement.
He went on to state that this follows his announcement to join the Raila Odinga led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
Shahbal mentioned that he will channel his efforts to see that the ODM Jubilee merger is successful ahead of the 2022 polls.
"I have, today, officially resigned from the @JubileePartyK. This follows my announcement to join the @TheODMparty. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Jubilee Party leadership for the support offered to me throughout my membership," he said.

Adding that, "I will further put my efforts in ensuring the merger between Jubilee and ODM parties is realized. The Handshake spirit is what we all need!"
Businessman Suleiman Shahbal’s resignation from Jubilee comes about four weeks after announcing that he had defected from the ruling Jubilee Party to ODM.
"I was in ODM in 2013. I was pushed out by Joho, and forced to seek a new party. This time round, I have returned home," he said.
In 2013, and 2017, the businessman unsuccessfully contested the Mombasa governorship losing both times to Governor Hassan Joho.
