Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has revealed that he recently held a meeting with the father of the two brothers; Emmanuel Mutura and Benson Njiru who died in Kianjokoma area, Embu County after being arrested by police for claims of violating curfew regulations.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, Matiang’i noted that he alongside Attorney General Kihara Kariuki and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai met with the father of the deceased brothers and gave him an assurance that justice will be served.

“We sat down with the father of the two children, we spoke to him, I was with the Inspector General of the Police and the Attorney General and we have assured them that we will do what we have done before,” Matiang’i said.

His statement comes amid criticism that the government is yet to take decisive action regarding the controversial murder of the two brothers.

Last week, the area residents took to the streets protesting the controversial death of the two. The locals lit street fires and blocked roads forcing the police to intervene. Unfortunately, one person was shot dead in the protests.

So far, the OCPD and OCS from the area have been transferred to create room for investigations by the relevant agencies.

The Independent Police Oversight Authority, human rights organisations and other police agencies are already investigating the controversial deaths.

According to the police, the two brothers jumped off a moving vehicle after being arrested. The family, however, argues that the two were murdered.
