Police spokesman Bruno Shioso has stated that the security changes made to Deputy President William Ruto's security team are part of the reassignment of duties within the National Police Service (NPS) to enhance efficiency.  

On Thursday, August 26, 2021, General Service Unit (GSU) officers guarding Deputy President William Ruto's Karen residence were withdrawn and replaced. 

In a statement issued by Mr. Shioso on Thursday evening, he mentioned that the changes made were part of the reassignment of duties within the national police service. 

"Today 26th August 2021 the security of government buildings unit (SGB) has been deployed to provide general security to the official residence of H.E Deputy president from General Service Unit," part of the statement read.

Hours after the withdrawal, DP Ruto issued a statement stating that he had written to the Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai seeking an explanation on the withdrawal of security at his official residence in Karen.

"The Office of the Deputy President has formally written to the Inspector General of Police, seeking an official explanation on this matter and reasons for the breach of security," reads the statement signed by the DP's Secretary Communication, David Mugonyi.
