Stop Calling Me to Challenge New TSC Directive - Nelson Havi to Teachers

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has declined a request by teachers to petition the new Teachers Service Commission (TSC) directive that requires tutors to undergo fresh training and renew their certificates.  

In a new directive by TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, teachers will undertake refresher courses as a requirement that will enable them to renew their practising certificate every five years. 

Taking a swipe at the teachers, LSK President Havi suggested that tutors dug their own graves when they replaced Wilson Sossion as KUNT Sec-Gen with their preferred choice. 

"Teachers, you left Wilson Sossion to be fought to exhaustion by the State. KNUT withdrew all cases against the State when you replaced Sossion with a Secretary of ‘your preferred choice’. Please, stop calling me to challenge the directive by TSC that you be trained afresh," Havi tweeted.

Teachers will be required to pay Sh6,000 each year for five years to complete the courses.

The institutions selected to offer training to the teachers include; Mount Kenya University (MKU), Kenyatta University, Riara University, and the Kenya Education Management Institute.

Havi Challenges CBC in Court 

Havi has already moved to court to challenge the implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) following complaints by parents. 

"I have heard your cries parents, guardians and teachers. The petition challenging CBC will be filed in Court next week. The education system in Kenya should not be an expensive, inefficient and ineffective experiment with our children and their future as is our leadership,” the LSK president recently announced.
